HMS Vanguard

At about 11.20pm on 9 July 1917 Vanguard was destroyed by a series of explosions while at anchor in Scapa Flow in the Orkneys, killing all but two of the 845 members of her crew who were aboard at the time. It is believed that the explosions began in one of the midship magazines.
