HMS Curacao

On 2 October 1942, HMS Curacao was in the North Atlantic escorting the liner Queen Mary carrying thousands of American troops to Europe. Both ships had adopted a zigzag course to avoid U-boats when the Queen Mary cut across the path of the Curacao with insufficient clearance, striking her amidships at a speed of 28 knots and cutting her in two.
The Curacao sank immediately. There were about 100 survivors from the cruiser’s crew of over 400.
