Royal Armoured Corps

In April 1939 the Royal Armoured Corps was created by combining those previously mounted Cavalry units that had been mechanised (Household Cavalry, Dragoon Guards, Lancers and Hussars) and the Royal Tank Corps (which was then renamed the Royal Tank Regiment). The Reconnaissance Corps was absorbed into the RAC in 1944.
