Rifleman 300810 STUART COULTHARD YEOMANS of 1/5th (City of London) battalion London Regiment (London Rifle Brigade) died on 1 July 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme. On 1 July the battalion was engaged in the ‘diversionary’ attack on the village of Gommecourt intended to prevent the Germans switching troops and guns to face the main assault further South. The battalion lost 19 officers and 553 Other Ranks killed or missing during the Battle of the Somme.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the memorial at the Private Banks Cricket and Athletic Club in Catford.

Details:
He was 31, the son of the late Montague and Phoebe Yeomans. He was an employee of Coutts Bank.
