Private 108646 RAWLEIGH WILLIAM WRIGHT of the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles (Saskatchewan Regiment) died on 4 December 1918 while a prisoner of war. He enlisted in Vegreville, Alberta on 2 January 1915. In 1916 agreements were made between the Swiss and the French, British and German Governments under which a certain number of wounded PoWs were interned in Switzerland. The first prisoners arrived in Switzerland at the end of May 1916. Sixty one died before repatriation.
He was buried in Vevey (St Martin’s) cemetery, Switzerland.

He is remembered on the war memorial at St Hilda’s church, Brockley and on the Canadian Virtual War Memorial.

He was born on 2 July 1894. He was the son of Jean E. Wright, of 15, Hazeldon Rd., Crofton Park, and the late Sydney Wright.
