Captain FRANK THOMAS WINTERBOURNE of 2nd battalion London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers) died when the Dun Laoghaire to Holyhead mailboat R M S Leinster was torpedoed at about 10am on 10 October 1918 some 12 miles off the Irish coast. About 500 people died, many of them military personnel returning from leave. He is buried in Grangegorman Military Cemetery, near Dublin.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered in the Book of Remembrance, St Saviour, Forest Hill. One of the Leinster’s anchors was retrieved from the wreck and now stands on the quayside in Dun Laoghaire harbour as a memorial to those who died.
