Winder, Henry Charles

War Service: Henry Charles Winder has served as a Private with the 3rd Battalion London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers) and his service number was 5954. He died on 22nd October 1916, aged 24.

Location of Memorial: He is buried in Brockley cemetery, where his name is recorded on the screen wall listing those whose graves have no headstone.

Details: Henry Charles Winder was born between January and March 1893 in Deptford.

On the 1901 census he was recorded living at 103 Creek Road, Deptford with his parents, John and Eliza. Also living there were his two brothers, John and William, six sisters Rose, Emily, Maud, Charlotte, Anne and Ethel, and his niece, Rose.

In 1911 he was recorded living at 103 Creek Road, Deptford with his parents, his brothers John and William and four of his sisters, Charlotte, Annie Lily and Ethel. He was employed by his father as a slater and tiler.
