Wincott, Arthur Henry

Sergeant (Pilot) ARTHUR HENRY WINCOTT Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve of 455 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force was killed in action on 7 April 1942. At 23:55 on 6 April Handley Page Hampden ‘UB-T’ took off from Wigsley in Lincolnshire to bomb Essen. At 04:13 on 7 April it was shot down by a nightfighter over Holland and crashed near Zwolle.

The crew, including Arthur Wincott, are buried in Amersfoort (Ould Leusden) General Cemetery.

His name appears in the Brockley County School Book of Remembrance.

He was the son of Arthur and Matilda Wincott of Rotherhithe.
