Sergeant EDWARD C WILKIN of 160 Protection Company, Royal Defence Corps died in Lewisham Military Hospital on 23 November 1918, aged 27. The Royal Defence Corps was formed in 1917 from the Home Service battalions of infantry regiments. These usually comprised men who were too old or too unfit for front line, overseas service. The Corps provided men to guard key locations such as bridges and ports and to guard PoW camps.

He is buried in Brockley Cemetery, where his name is recorded on the screen wall listing those whose graves have no headstone.

He is remembered on the memorial at Lewisham Military Hospital Memorial outside University Hospital Lewisham.

He was the husband of Amy Phyllis Elizabeth Wilkin, of 58, Trundley's Rd., Deptford.
