Pilot Officer SYDNEY HENRY JOHN WHITE Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve was killed in action on 29 January 1943 while serving with 158 Squadron. At 1712 on 29 January Handley Page Halifax ‘NP-J’ took off from RAF Rufforth in Yorkshire to bomb Lorient in Brittany. The aircraft crashed at Plougasnou.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Air Forces Memorial at Runnymede. His crew are buried in Plougasnou Communal Cemetery.
