Second-Lieutenant Cyril Arthur White enlisted in the Honourable Artillery Company 30 June 1915 and headed to France in October. After serving for a year he gained a Commission in the 17th Middlesex Regiment 7 May 1916 and served on the Frontline until his death. He was Killed in Action (hit by a shell) aged 20 28 April 1917 during the attack on Vimy Ridge. He was buried where he fell.
Location of Memorial:
He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial to those who died who died in the Arras sector between the spring of 1916 and 7 August 1918, the eve of the Advance to Victory, and have no known grave.
Details:
He born 5 November 1896 in St John's and was the son of Edward James and Rhoda White of 24, Batsford Road, St John's. He was educated at Blackheath Road School. He was a Scout member and on 26 November 1914 he was appointed Assistant Scoutmaster to the 18th Greenwich Troop Boy Scouts. He was an Accountant's Clerk.
