Private 240684 JOHN WINDLE WESTWOOD of ‘D’ Company, 5th battalion Seaforth Highlanders died of wounds in Lewisham Military Hospital on 8 April 1917, aged 20. At the time he was wounded he was serving with the battalion’s trench mortar battery.

He is buried in the churchyard of St Peter and St Paul, Horndon-on-the-Hill and is remembered on the village war memorial.

He is also remembered on the Lewisham Military Hospital memorial outside University Hospital Lewisham.

Details:
He was the son of George Samuel and Frances Jane Westwood, of Horndon-on-the-Hill, Essex.
