War Service: Sergeant Pilot 1335713 BRIAN WALTER EDWARD WEDDERBURN RAFVR died aged 20 on 17 April 1943 while serving with 76 Squadron RAF. At 2049 on 17 April Handley Page Halifax DT575 ‘MP-Y’ took off from RAF Linton on Ouse, Yorkshire to bomb Plzen.

The aircraft crashed in France, killing all on board. Among the crew was another Lewisham resident sergeant (navigator) Brodie Clinging.

He and all the crew are buried in Liesse Communal Cemetery near Laon, France.

He is remembered on the memorial at Holy Trinity, Sydenham.

Details:
He was the son of Herbert Walter and May Eleanor Florence Wedderburn, of Sydenham.
