Ward, Dacre Stanley

War Service:
Second Lieutenant DACRE STANLEY WARD of 1/12th battalion London Regiment (The Rangers) died on 1 July 1916, the first day of the battle of the Somme. He was reported missing after the attack on the fortified village of Gommecourt.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the war memorial in the church of St George, Catford.

Details:
He was 33 years old, the son of Alfred and Alice Ward, of 67, Westcombe Park Rd., Blackheath. In the spring of 1915 he married Marion Ethel Greenwood in Lewisham. They lived at 16, Alexandra Court, Queen's Gate, Kensington.
