Wakeman, James William George

Dates: 1896-1916

War Service: James William George Wakeman served as a Private with the 8th Battalion Royal Fusiliers and his service number was 12044. He died of his wounds while at the War Hospital, Gosforth on 3rd November 1916, aged 19.

Location of Memorial: He is buried in Brockley cemetery, where his name is recorded on the screen wall listing those whose graves have no headstone.

Details: James William George was born on 30th November 1896 to James Charles and Mary Jane Wakeman. He was baptised on 24th January 1897 at St Pauls Church, Deptford when the family were living at 30 Henry Street, Deptford.

In 1911 he was recorded living with his parents at 59 Childers Street, Deptford and he was employed as a van boy. He had two brothers; William and Charles, and four sisters; Elsie, Ethel, Florence and Annie May.
