War Service:
ALEX DINHAM WAKELY was serving as Second Radio Officer on the SS Empire Citizen when she was torpedoed in the North Atlantic by U107 on 2 February 1941. She was en route from Liverpool to Rangoon as part of convoy OB-279. There were five survivors from the crew of 83.
He was lost at sea and is commemorated on the Merchant Navy memorial on Tower Hill.

He was born in Croydon in the autumn of 1919, the son of Frank and Hilda Wakely.
