Private 81989 LESLIE HOWARD TURNER of the 20th (Service) Battalion Durham Light Infantry ( “The Wearside Pals” ) died on 26 March 1919, aged 19.

Cologne was occupied under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles from December 1918 until January 1926 and 20th DLI were part of the British Army of Occupation.

He is buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery.

Location of Memorial:
He is also remembered on the war memorial at St Bartholomew’s church, Sydenham.

Details:
He was the son of Mrs Minnie Turner, of 52, Laurel Grove, Penge.
