Thornton, Douglas Saville

2nd Lieutenant Thornton, Douglas Saville served with the 11th Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment). He was killed in action 1 October 1916 aged 20.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.

Location of Memorial:
He was remembered on the Malvern House School Memorial which was destroyed in an air raid during the Second World War and on the roll of honour at www.croydononline.org.

Details:
Son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Oliver Thornton, of 31, Fairfield Road, East Croydon. He was born in the spring of 1896 in the Sevenoaks RD.
