Thomas, Benjamin

Dates: 1893-1914

War Service: Benjamin Thomas enlisted in 1911 and served as a Private with 4th (Royal Irish) Dragoon Guards. His service number was 6038. He died on 8th September 1914.

Location of Memorial: Private Thomas is commemorated on the La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre memorial and on the war memorial at St Luke's, Deptford.

Details: Born 1st April 1893 in Rotherhithe, the son of George and Jane Thomas.

In 1901 he was recorded living at 148 Evelyn Street, Deptford and he attended Grove Street School, Deptford.

In 1911 he was recorded living at 221 Evelyn Street Deptford with his parents and he was employed as a rivet carrier. He had four brothers George, Edward William, Alfred and Robert John and a sister, Edith Maud.
