Airman 1st Class RALPH PHOEBUS THIMANN of 9 Squadron Royal Flying Corps died on 12 October 1917 aged 20.

He is buried in Dozinghem Military Cemetery, Poperinghe, Belgium. There were three Casualty Clearing Stations in this area and the troops nicknamed them Bandaghem, Mendinghem and Dozinghem.

He is remembered on the memorials at Blackheath Congregational Church and St Mildred’s church, Lee.

Details:
He was the son of Mrs K Thimann of The Chase, Manor Drive, Wembley Park. His father the late Rev. Israel Phoebus Thimann was a Congregational church minister at Ashford in Kent and at Lee where he died in 1912. Ralph attended Ashford Grammar School from September to December 1908 and is remembered on the school war memorial.
