Leading Seaman JOHN GORDON SYMONDS Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve died on 11 January 1918 while serving as gunlayer on the collier River Crake.

Location of Memorial:
He is buried in Brockley Cemetery where his name is recorded on the screen wall listing those whose graves have no headstone.

Details:
According to the inquest on his death he drowned in Newhaven harbour after falling between the ship and the wharf.
He was the son of Mr. J. E. Symonds, of 9, Barlborough Street, New Cross.
