Lance Sergeant WILLIAM AUBREY FRANCIS SWALES of 139 Field Regiment, Royal Artillery died on 4 June 1945.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Rangoon Memorial. The Rangoon Memorial stands in Taukkyan War Cemetery, the largest of the three war cemeteries in Burma. It bears the names of almost 27,000 men of the Commonwealth land forces who died during the campaigns in Burma (now Myanmar) and who have no known grave.

He is remembered on the memorial to the 91 and 139 Field Regiment, Royal Artillery in St Swithun’s church, Hither Green.

Details:
He was 27, the son of William and Ellen Swales of Forest Hill.
