Swainson, Francis Gibbon

War Service:
Captain Swainson, Francis Gibbon of "A" Company 1st/16th Battalion London Regiment (Queen's Westminster Rifles). He died on the first day of the Battle of the Somme [1 July 1916] aged 21.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial [Pier and Face 13 C] to those who died during the Battle of the Somme.

He is remembered on the war memorial at Christ Church, Lee.

Details:
He was born in the autumn of 1894 in the Preston RD and he was the younger son of Mrs. E. P. Swainson, of "Rosebank," Knowsley, Prescot, Lancs, and the late G. A. Swainson.
