Stanton, John


War Service:
Stoker 2nd Class JOHN STANTON died on 20 July 1944 when the destroyer HMS Isis was sunk, probably by a mine, while on patrol off the Normandy beach head.

He was lost at sea and is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.

Location of Memorial:
He is also remembered on the Sydenham South Suburban Gas Works war memorial. His name also appears on the memorial to the men lost on the HMS Isis in Portsmouth cathedral.

He was the son of John and Matilda Stanton of Catford.
