Lieutenant ALFRED HENRY TEMPLEMAN LORAINE SPEER, Royal Field Artillery died on 9 July 1916 while attached to the Royal Flying Corps. His promotion to Lieutenant was announced in the London Gazette of 2 November 1915. He had been awarded an Aviators Certificate on 20 January 1916 after qualifying on a Maurice Farman biplane at Norwich Military School.

He is buried in London Cemetery, Neuville-Vitasse.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the war memorial at Balcombe in Sussex and on the memorial to the 91 and 139 Field Regiment, Royal Artillery in St Swithun’s church, Hither Green.

Details:
He was 22, the son of Dr. William H. and Marion Lilford Loraine Speer, of "South Sheen," Brittany Rd., St. Leonards-on-Sea. He was born in Hertfordshire.
