Smith, William

Dates: [1892-1915]

War Service: William Smith served as a Lance Corporal with the 2nd Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment and his service number was 9081. He enlisted in November 1910 and served in Bermuda, Canada and Gibraltar. He died on 12th March 1915.

Location of Memorial: Lance Corporal Smith is remembered on the Le Touret Memorial and on the memorial at St Luke's, Deptford.

Details: Born in 1892, William was the son of Henry Walter and Sarah Smith, of 11 Hale Street,Deptford. He had four brothers Henry, James, Albert and George and three sisters Sarah , Adeline and Elizabeth. Before joining the army, William was employed as a hawker.
