Smith, Percy Alfred

Dates: 1890-1918

War Service: Percy Alfred Smith served with the 700th Mechanical Transport Company Royal Army Service Corps and his service number was M2/270358. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 1st March 1917. He died on 29th November 1918 at Seaforth Military Hospital, aged 28.

Location of Memorial: He is buried in Brockley cemetery, where his name is recorded on the screen wall listing those whose graves have no headstone.

Details: Percy Alfred Smith was born c1890 at 31 Orchard Hill, Greenwich. In 1901 he was recorded living at 24 Orchard Hill, Greenwich with his parents John and Sarah, his brothers John William, Herbert Henry and Arthur Gilbert, and his sisters, Sarah and Edith Florence.

In 1911 he was recorded living at 37 Northam Street, Greenwich with his mother Sarah and siblings Sarah, Arthur Gilbert and Edith Florence May Smith. He was employed as a railway labourer.

He married Emily Williams on 12th June 1913 at St Paul's, Greenwich.
