Private 8728 GORDON FREDERICK WILLIAM SMITH of the Royal Army Medical Corps died on 1 August 1916. At the time of his death he was attached to the 2nd Cavalry Field Ambulance.

He was originally buried in the churchyard at Merris but is now commemorated on a memorial in Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, near Arras.

He is remembered on the memorial in St Margaret’s church, Lee.

Details:
He was 21 years old, the son of Frederick William Smith, of 128, Charles St., Stour, Greenhithe, Kent, and the late Emily Smith.
