Sergeant (Observer) WILLIAM HERBERT ROLAND SMALE Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve died on 30 April 1941 while serving with 21 Squadron. He was 26.
Bristol Blenheim ā€˜YH-Gā€™ took off from RAF Watton in Norfolk at 0530 on 30 April on an anti shipping strike. It was shot down into the sea by flak off the Dutch coast.

All three crew members are buried in Hook of Holland General Cemetery, Netherlands.

Location of Memorial:
Roland Smale is remembered on a plaque in the entrance lobby to the NatWest Bank in Rushey Green.

Details:
He was the son of Samuel and May Smale, of St. Albans, Hertfordshire.
