Shearman, Hubert Warner

War Service:
Corporal Hubert Warner Shearman, ā€œDā€ Company, 20th (County of London) Battalion (Blackheath and Woolwich), London Regiment, was killed in action on the 1st October 1916, aged 24. He enlisted at Blackheath and first arrived in France on the 9th March 1915.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.

He is remembered on the memorials at St Andrew's Church, Catford and also on the 20th London Regiment Roll of Honour.

Details:
He was born on the 5th October 1891, the son of James Richard and Mary Eliza Louisa Shearman of 66 Ardgowan Road, Catford. He was educated at Hither Green School along with his elder brother, Edwin. After leaving School he became a warehouseman working in a drapery warehouse. Prior to joining the army he was resident at his parents address paying a weekly rent of 4 shillings.
