Flight Sergeant DENNIS ERNEST ARTHUR SEAGER 1254727, 44 Sqdn., Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve died on 13 July 1943

At 22:23 on 12 July 1943 Avro Lancaster serial ED331 ‘KM-Z’ took off from RAF Dunholme Lodge in Lincolnshire to bomb Turin. The crew comprised Wing Commander J D Nettleton VC, F/O A R Ludlow, Sgt D E A Seager, Flying Officer K S Juniper, Flight Lieutenant L D Cramp, Flight Lieutenant I M Wood, and Flying Officer F I Calcutt. The aircraft never returned and is believed to have been shot down by a night fighter over Brest.

44 Squadron suffered the third highest overall casualties of RAF Bomber Command.

He and the crew are all commemorated at the Air Forces Memorial at Runnymede.

He was born in Lewisham in the spring of 1922.
