Saunders, Victor Charles

Dates:

War Service:
Staff Sergeant VICTOR CHARLES SAUNDERS of the Glider Pilot Regiment, died on D-Day, 6 June 1944, aged 28. As all of the pilots of the gliders carrying the coup de main force which seized the Orne Bridges survived it is probable that he was part of the glider force which brought in vehicles and guns in the early hours of D-Day to create an anti-tank screen around the left flank of the landing beaches.

He is buried in St Desir War Cemetery near Lisieux, the most Easterly of the Normandy cemeteries.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered in the Brockley County School Book of Remembrance.

Details:
He was the son of Charles and Elizabeth Saunders of Catford.
