War Service:
Private G/87275 LEONARD STEPHEN SADGROVE of the 23rd Battalion Royal Fusiliers died on 7 September 1918, aged 18. He enlisted in Camberwell and was trained in the 52nd Young Soldiers Battalion based in Newmarket.
The 23rd was originally one of two so called 'Sportsmen's' battalions (23 and 24 R Fusiliers) raised and paid for by Mrs Cunliffe Owen.
Leonard is buried in Sanders Keep Military Cemetery, Graincourt - les – Havrincourt, near Cambrai.

He and his brother James are remembered on the memorial at Lewisham United Reformed Church.
Details:
He was born in Greenwich in the spring of 1900, the son of James Henry and Louisa Blanche Sadgrove, of 24 Brandram Road, Lewisham. His 23 year old brother James Thomas Sadgrove was killed on 6 September 1916.
