He was buried and remembered in Hither Green Cemetery CWGC War Memorial. (Grave Ref. B643).

He was born 28 May 1891, the son of William and Elizabeth Royal, of 9, Wantage Road, Lee, London. He attended St Olave's Grammar School May 1906 - December 1912.
