Lieutenant WILLIAM HORACE STANLEY ROPER of 3rd battalion Grenadier Guards died on 11 October 1917 of wounds sustained two days earlier. He joined the Artists Rifles Officer Training Corps in April 1916 and in September was commissioned into the Grenadier Guards. He went to France in May 1917.

He is buried in Dozinghem Military Cemetery, near Poperinghe.

He is remembered on the war memorial at St Dunstan’s College.

Details:
He was the son of William Shepherd Roper and Ellen Roper, of 83, Bromley Rd., Catford. He was educated at St Dunstans College, Catford and Kings College, London. After leaving school in 1907 he joined the Bank of England.
