Corporal 255 NORMAN SPENCER ASHBY ROLLS of No.1 Company, Australian Tunnelling Corps died in No 26 General Hospital, Etaples on 14 March 1917, he was originally taken ill in January 1917. He enlisted in August 1915 at Ilfracombe in Queensland and sailed for France on 20 February 1916 on the troopship ‘Ulysses.’

He is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, near Boulogne.

He is remembered in the Roll of Honour at Blackheath Proprietary School..

Details:
He was 30 years old, the son of Percy William and Maud Marion Rolls, of 57, Lee Terrace, Blackheath. At the time of enlisting he gave his trade as motor mechanic.
