Leading Airman DOUGLAS WILLIAM RICHMOND died on 17 January 1941 when the SS Almeda Star was lost with all hands after being torpedoed West of the Hebrides. He was among 21 officers and 121 ratings of the Fleet Air Arm attached to 749, 750 & 752 Squadrons en route to Royal Naval Air Station Piarco in Trinidad.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Lee on Solent memorial to the Fleet Air Arm.
