Richmond, Claude

Dates: 1893-1915

War Service: Claude Richmond served as a Private with the Kent Cyclist Battalion and his service number was 1118. He died at Canterbury on 23rd September 1915 after having an operation for appendicitis.

Location of Memorial: He is buried in Brockley cemetery, where his name is recorded on the screen wall listing those whose graves have no headstone.

Details: Claude Richmond was the son of Christopher and Mary Richmondand was born on 26th March 1893 in Erdington, Birmingham.

In 1911 he was recorded living at 11 Parkdene, Hilly Fields Crescent, Brockley with his parents and his four brothers; George William, Kenneth Francis, Edwin Hill and Charles Eric.

He enlisted on 14th November 1914 giving his address as 58 Mount Pleasant Rd, Lewisham and his occupation as a gasworks employee. It was noted that he was 5ft 7 inches tall and that his physical development was good.
