Reed, Walter George

Dates: c.1889-1918

War Service: Walter George Reed served as a Private with the 13th Battalion Devonshire Regiment later transferring to the Labour Corps and his service number was 46079. He died of accidental injuries while at the War Hospital, Exeter on 24th July 1918, aged 28.

Location of Memorial: He is buried in Brockley cemetery, where his name is recorded on the screen wall listing those whose graves have no headstone.

Details: In 1901 Walter was recorded living at 15 Brooms Hill Grove, Greenwich with his parents George and Fanny. He had four brothers Steve, Alfred, Charlie and Albert and three sisters Louisa, Sophia and Lily.

He married Frances Ella Baker on 5th March 1911 at Christ Church, Greenwich. In 1911 he was recorded living at 80 Blissett St, Greenwich with his wife Frances and he was employed as a postman.

At the time of his death his wife was living at 115 Brookmill Road, Deptford.
