Marine CHARLES WILFRED ROBERT RADLEY of 42 Commando died on 31 January 1945, aged 24. In early 1945 the Commando carried out a series of amphibious raids on the coastal areas of Burma with a view to cutting off the retreating Japanese. One of these involved the capture of a feature known as Hill 70 near Kangaw. 42 Commando landed on 22 January, captured the ridge after two days hand to hand fighting and then held it until 31 January against successive counter attacks.

He is buried in Taukkyan War Cemetery in Burma.

He is remembered on the war memorial at the church of St Augustine, Grove Park.

He was the son of Wilfred and Margaret Radley of Downham.
