Pownall, Allen Claude Morrison

War Service:
Second Lieutenant ALLEN CLAUDE MORRISON POWNALL of ‘B’ Battery, 104 Brigade, Royal Field Artillery was killed in action on 27 March 1918. He joined the West Kent Yeomanry in February 1910. He served at Gallipoli in 1915 and was invalided home with enteric fever. He was commissioned into the RFA on 30 July 1917 and went to France two months later.

He is buried and remembered in Fonquevillers Military Cemetery.

He is remembered on the war memorial at the parish church of St Mary, Lewisham.

Details:
He was born in Eastbourne on 8 July 1883, the son of Capt. F. G. Pownall (R.A.).and Mrs Margaret Pownall. In later years she moved to Westdown Road, Catford. He was educated at Rother House and the West Kent Grammar School. He worked as a cashier at J Travers & Sons.
