War Service:
Lance Corporal GEORGE WILLIAM PHILLIPS, 2nd battalion Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment) died on 31 October 1916.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Basra memorial in Iraq. The Basra Memorial commemorates more than 40,500 members of the Commonwealth forces who died in the operations in Mesopotamia from the Autumn of 1914 to the end of August 1921 and whose graves are not known.

Location of Memorial:
He is also remembered on the memorial of St Mary’s school, Lewisham.

Details:
He was born in Lewisham in the spring of 1892.
