Lieutenant SYDNEY THOMAS PAYNE died on 6 April 1918 while serving with No.13 Squadron of the newly created Royal Air Force. Before joining the Royal Flying Corps he had served with the Royal West Surrey Regiment.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the memorial at Goldsmiths College, New Cross where he had been a student.

Details:
He was 24, the son of George and Sarah Payne, of 15 Elm Cottage, Marlpit Hill, Edenbridge, Kent.
