Lance Corporal 372631 EDWARD PAYNE MM of the 8th Battalion London Regiment (Post Office Rifles) died on 25 July 1918, aged 22.
The award of his Military Medal “for bravery in the Field” was announced in the London Gazette of 11 December 1917.

He is buried in Contay British Cemetery, Franvillers.

He is remembered on the memorials at Lee PO Sorting Office, Woodstock Road and the Royal Mail London South East District Office, Mandela Way, SE1.

Details:
He was born in the spring of 1896, the son of Mr Robert Payne, of 4, Knowles Hill Crescent, Lewisham.
