War Service:
Lance Corporal HERBERT GEORGE OTTAWAY of 16th Infantry Battalion, Australian Imperial Force was killed in action in Belgium on 11 July 1917. He is probably the Herbert George Ottaway who sailed from London to Sydney in 1911. When he enlisted he said he had 12 years previous service in the Royal Berkshire Regiment.

He has no known grave and is commemorated the Menin Gate at Ypres.

Location of Memorial:
He is also remembered on the memorial at the church of St Catharine, Hatcham.

Details:
He was 33. He was the brother of Mrs Edith Carter of Aspinall Rd, Brockley. When he enlisted he gave his occupation as miner.
