Lieutenant DESMOND PATRICK O'CONNOR Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve died on 28 August 1944 aged 25. At the time of his death he was serving on the Hunt class destroyer HMS Melbreak when it came under air attack while on patrol in the Channel. Fifteen members of the crew were wounded and five killed.

He is buried in Haslar Royal Naval Cemetery, Gosport.

He is remembered in the Brockley County School Book of Remembrance.

Details:
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Patrick O'Connor of Downham, Bromley. His brother Francis was killed on HMS Dasher on 27 March 1943.
