Second Lieutenant WILLIAM MCDONALD NOBLE of the Royal Engineers died on 31 December 1916 of wounds sustained on 29 December. At the time of his death he was attached to The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) as brigade signals officer.

He is buried in Dernancourt Communal Cemetery.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the memorial at Haberdashers' Aske’s School in New Cross.

Details:
He was 26 years old, the son of William Noble of Burbage Road, Herne Hill. He was educated at Aske’s, Merchant Taylor and Strand schools and played rugby for the Old Merchant Taylors. Before the war he worked for the General Electric Company.
