War Service: Private George Nicholls served with 8th Battalion The Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment) and his service number was S/8677. He died 14th April 1917 and is buried at grave reference I. L. 27 Maroc British Cemetery, Grenay.
Location of Memorial: Private Nicholls is remembered on the memorial at the church of St Luke's, Deptford.
Details: George was born on 18th September 1895, the son of Arthur G and Annie Nicholls, and was baptised on 2nd October 1895 at Christ Church, Deptford. In 1911 they were living at 57 Baildon Street, Deptford and George was working for a glass manufacturer, carrying in the glass. He had three brothers Arthur, Henry and John and a sister, Louisa. Henry Nicholls is also remembered on the St Luke's Church war memorial.
