Moore, Sydney Alfred

War Service:
Private Sydney Alfred Moore, 3rd Battalion, East Kent Regiment (The Buffs), died on the 9th January 1916 aged 19. His death was the result of an accident during training – whilst handling a rifle the weapon discharged and inflicted a wound from which he died in Dover Hospital.

His funeral was reported in the Catford Journal: "The coffin was covered with a Union Jack and apart from floral tributes from many local sympathisers, there were three large wreaths from his colleagues in the East Kent Regiment. The Rev W.S. Grainger conducted the service, the funeral arrangements being carried out by Messrs F Chappell and Sons, Rushey Green". An inquest returned a verdict of Death by Misadventure.

He is buried in Lewisham (Ladywell) Cemetery.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the memorials at St Andrew's Church, Catford.

He was the son of James and Margaret Moore of 72 St. Fillans Road, Catford. He was the brother of William Joseph Moore, who was killed in action in March 1918.
