Private 83924 ALBERT ROSS MITCHELL of the 2nd/22nd Battalion the London Regiment died on 31 October 1917, aged 29.

The attack on the Turkish positions outside Beersheba was part of the 3rd Battle of Gaza. The 2/22 Londons were part of 181st Brigade and with three other infantry brigades began the assault at about 12.15pm on 31 October. The infantry quickly reached all their initial objectives but at a cost to the four brigades of 116 men killed.

He is buried in Beersheba War Cemetery, Israel.

He is is remembered on the memorial at Lewisham United Reformed Church.

Details:
He married Frances E Utting in Lewisham in the spring of 1915; they lived at 199 Ardgowan Road, Catford.
